BA in International Studies-Economics from UCSD

Maryam Gueramian

Bio:
I was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland in 1985, and lived in Tehran, Iran for a while before moving to the United States at the age of 14. I've had a passion for art as far back as I can remember and I've been continuing to cultivate my talent. After obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Economics from the University of California, San Diego, I decided to expand my hobby of painting. After graduation, I moved to Tehran and was inspired by the Iranian and Eastern culture and beliefs, and inspired to create some of the paintings you see today. To better cope with cultural and political difficulties existing in Iran, I delved into a period of artistic exertion. I held a solo exhibition in Tehran in August 2007 and another one in Los Angeles in April, 2008. Some of my paintigns were also nominated for a few group exhibitons. I am currently working towards my MBA degree at Cal State Northridge, while engaging in artistic and cultural activites as well. I truly hope that one day, cultural and religious beliefs would bring people closer to each other rather than separating them. Current Position: Co-Chair of the Los Angeles Steering Committee for the Manjushri Project, "Pictures of You: Images from Iran".
